Job summary
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and dynamic Senior Theatre Practitioner to join the dedicated Day Surgery Operating Theatres team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled registered practitioner (RN/ODP) with strong scrub expertise to take on a senior role within our friendly, high-performing theatre environment.
The post holder will work predominantly within the ENT speciality, supporting a wide range of elective procedures including adult and paediatric ENT surgery. You will also provide professional leadership and high-quality scrub support across other Day Surgery specialities depending on service needs.
As a Senior Theatre Practitioner, you will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient and patient-centred perioperative care. You will act as a role model for junior staff, contributing to clinical supervision, training and the ongoing development of the MDT. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent clinical judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a busy, fast-paced environment.
This role is ideal for a practitioner who is enthusiastic about developing the ENT speciality while maintaining a broad foundation across Day Surgery specialties. You will be supported by our experienced theatre leadership team and encouraged to contribute to service improvement, innovation, and the continuous delivery of high standards aligned with Trust values.
Main duties of the job
- Provide skilled and safe scrub support within the ENT speciality, ensuring high-quality perioperative care for both adult and paediatric patients.
- Deliver scrub assistance across a range of Day Surgery specialities, including ophthalmology, general surgery, plastics, maxillofacial and orthopaedics as service needs require.
- Coordinate the theatre department when required, ensuring effective workflow, safe staffing, timely list progression and clear communication with the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Act as a clinical role model, supporting junior staff through supervision, mentorship and the promotion of best practice.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe operating environment by adhering to infection prevention standards, participating in safety checks and supporting the delivery of WHO Surgical Safety processes.
- Assist in planning, preparing and maintaining theatre equipment and instrumentation, ensuring readiness for procedures and escalating issues appropriately.
- Work collaboratively within the theatre team to deliver efficient, patient-centred care and contribute to ongoing service improvement.
