Inpatient Maternity Matron

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Acute Services Matron to join our team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. This pivotal role will provide senior clinical leadership across our acute inpatient and Maternity Triage and ANDU areas, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients and families.

You will lead and support Midwifery teams, championing high standards of practice and driving improvements in patient experience, safety, and outcomes. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues, you will influence service development and embed a culture of excellence and accountability.

The role requires flexibility, with presence across acute wards, labour ward, Triage and ANDU, and occasional attendance at cross-site meetings. Strong leadership, advanced clinical knowledge, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.

Main duties of the job

As Acute Services Maternity Matron, you will provide visible leadership and expert clinical oversight across all inpatient, Triage and ANDU settings. You will ensure compliance with clinical governance standards, manage resources effectively, and maintain the highest levels of patient safety and dignity.

Your responsibilities include supporting and developing nursing teams, promoting best practice, and driving service improvements. You will act as a role model, mentor, and advocate for staff, fostering a culture of learning, civility, and inclusivity.

  • A good understanding of the changing NHS environment
  • A proven track record of operational management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment/Community environment, including staff, financial and change management
  • Proven track record of delivering the quality agenda, ensuring patient safety is paramount and at the forefront to planning services and resource allocation
  • Demonstrable previous success in leading and delivering change and performance with and through clinical teams, engaging them in the strategic direction and delivery plans
