Job summary

The Rotherham Foundation Trust NHS Trust is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist to join the Inpatient Therapy Team based at Rotherham Hospital.We are looking for applicants who have developed knowledge and skills to assess and treat patients with a wide variety of conditions within the acute setting. If you have a keen interest in providing holistic care to complex medical patients then we would love to hear from you.Our caseload comprises of patients requiring functional therapy to maintain, regain or improve their independence that has deteriorated secondary to a medical condition. We have an integrated approach to patient assessment, treatment and discharge planning, working closely with the wider MDT. Effective team work is essential.The caseload also comprises of patients who are transferred from critical care, continuing their rehabilitation programme to optimise exercise tolerance and functional recovery.There are opportunities to develop clinically, your leadership skills and knowledge, with an expectation to support junior staff, therapy support workers and students.There is a big emphasis on service development within the team.There may be an expectation to work across some weekends.This post runs until 30/04/2026.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to work full time hours (37.5 hours) between 08:30 to 16:30, be suitably qualified and be able to demonstrate their experience relevant to the role.The role involves working part of the MDT offering therapy interventions over 7 days to support with assessment, intervention and timely discharge planning of adult patients across the inpatient therapy wards within Rotherham Hospital. Part of the role also includes appropriate identification of onward therapy needs and timely referrals to community services.Within this role, you will be expected to support supervision of junior staff and to participate in service improvement training and education.The patient caseload will present with a wide variety of conditions which may include cardiology, respiratory, general surgery, general medicine, frailty/care of the elderly, endocrinology/haematology and so on. We do not cover the specialities of stroke and orthopaedics.If you possess the above skills and experiences, enjoy working in a fast paced therapeutic environment and can offer flexibility and a passion for patient-centred care, then this role is for you!

  • Diploma/Degree in either Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently between TRFT sites and for patient visits in the Rotherham area and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes.   • Post-graduate qualifications relevant to management of acute in-patients
  • Membership of British Association of Occupational Therapists OR The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
