The post holder will establish and maintain effective communication with patients, families and colleagues, often on complex or sensitive issues, while promoting equality, diversity and individual rights. They will maintain and develop their own knowledge and skills through continuing professional development and reflective practice, and contribute to the education and development of others.
A key part of the role is to monitor and maintain health, safety and security, actively engaging in clinical governance, quality improvement, research and service development. The post holder will assess and respond to complex and changing health and wellbeing needs, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and patient-centred care.
They will provide visible leadership, supporting, inspiring and challenging colleagues to innovate and develop practice, while fostering a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement. In addition, they will be expected to manage unpredictable and high-pressure situations within a rapidly changing emergency environment, demonstrating sound judgement and clinical expertise.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a visible, approachable and clinically expert nurse, accountable for maintaining the highest standards of care and providing effective leadership within the Paediatric Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (PUECC).
You will act as nurse in charge of the department, including triage, ensuring that safe, effective and timely care is delivered to all children and young people. You will oversee and coordinate activity within your designated area, providing clinical expertise, guidance and support to colleagues, while following appropriate escalation processes.
This role incorporates the management, development and education of staff nurses, support workers and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth and improvement.
You will act as an advocate for children, young people and their families, ensuring care is family-centred, compassionate and delivered in line with the NMC Code of Conduct.
The post holder will be expected to uphold Trust and national safeguarding standards, with a thorough understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures, including the use of SystmOne and CPIS checks.
This is a challenging yet rewarding position requiring strong leadership, sound clinical judgement and excellent communication skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality emergency care in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
