We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Speech & Language Therapy Service to support adults and older people with swallowing and/or communication disorders who may have a range of conditions including respiratory and/ or acquired or progressive neurological conditions. The successful applicant will work on the Rotherham Hospital general wards and/or in peoples own homes, care homes and outpatient clinics assessing, reviewing and managing patients who are experiencing oropharyngeal swallowing and communication problems, and with a range of medical conditions.For the right candidate this may be suitable as Band 5 Development post. On successful completion of the competencies outlined in their development plan, the candidate would progress on to full Band 6 duties and pay. Supervision will be provided

Main duties of the job

Solid competencies in dysphagia to Specialist Dysphagia Practitioner level is essential, as is sound knowledge and skills with regard to the progression and presentation of various neurological and respiratory conditions and how they impact on communication and swallowing.A flexible, team orientated approach along with good communication skills is needed.The successful candidate will also need to be organised with timely, accurate and complete documentation and good caseload management skills.Regular support and supervision of less experienced staff and students is required.
