This role is full time, Monday-Friday

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Head of Capital Projects, you will lead and coordinate the Trusts long-term capital planning, including the development and delivery of the one-to-five-year capital investment plan. You will provide leadership in implementing the estate strategy, overseeing all aspects of site and building design, procurement, and the delivery of major capital projects within agreed timescales and budgets.

The role supports both strategic and local health planning by ensuring these priorities are reflected in estate strategies and capital schemes. You will also contribute to the corporate management of land and property assets, including maintaining the buildings database, managing leases and licences, and ensuring accurate statutory property returns. In addition, you will oversee the delivery of backlog maintenance and statutory compliance programmes, manage and develop a multidisciplinary team, and support the Trusts Carbon Net Zero strategy through sustainability initiatives. The role also involves leading corporate commissioning and decommissioning projects to ensure the safe and effective transition of estate assets.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in building, construction, engineering, or major capital development, or willingness to work towards this if not already held.
  • Post-graduate experience in a senior project management role within estates or capital development, demonstrating specialist knowledge of building and infrastructure projects.
  • Project management qualification or equivalent experience at postgraduate level (e.g., PRINCE2 Practitioner), with proven use of recognised project management tools.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and active membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., RICS, CIBSE, CIOB, APM).

  • Significant experience leading complex, high-value, or sensitive capital projects from inception to delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience working strategically with senior colleagues and external partners to deliver organisational goals.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with technical standards, policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to coordinate projects, monitor progress, and report effectively to senior management.
  • Handles confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
