Clinical Nurse Specialist - Vascular Access

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Vascular Access Team at TRFT on a 12-month maternity cover basis. This is a nurse-led service where innovation, expertise, and high standards of patient care are at the heart of everything we do.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced and clinically confident nurse to lead a skilled team in providing advanced vascular access support across the Trust.

As the clinical lead, the post holder will be instrumental in shaping service delivery, ensuring evidence-based practice, and promoting innovation in vascular access care. They will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical staff, radiology, infection prevention, and education services, to ensure timely and appropriate vascular access for patients across all specialties.

This role requires strong leadership and clinical decision-making, as well as the ability to support and inspire a team of specialist nurses. .The post holder will also work closely with the Matron and Service Manager to contribute to service development, workforce planning, and the implementation of strategic objectives aligned with the Trusts values and priorities.

The successful candidate will be expected to drive service improvement, demonstrate advanced clinical practice, and maintain high standards of safety, quality, and patient experience in a fast-paced and evolving healthcare environment

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert clinical assessment and vascular access device selection for patients across the Trust, ensuring timely and appropriate access is achieved.
  • Lead the vascular access team on a day-to-day basis, ensuring service delivery aligns with national guidelines and trust policies.
  • Supervise and support Band 6 Nurse Specialists, fostering their clinical development and encouraging reflective, evidence-based practice.
  • Deliver formal and informal training on vascular access techniques and care to nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals across the Trust.
  • Monitor and analyse service performance against key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting on outcomes and implementing action plans for improvement where necessary.
  • Lead on product evaluations, including organising and conducting trials of new vascular access devices, and liaising with procurement, suppliers, and stakeholders to provide clinical feedback.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical guidelines, SOPs, and policies, ensuring all documentation is aligned with the latest evidence and national standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Matron, Service Manager, and other nursing leaders to drive continuous quality improvement and contribute to audit, research, and service transformation initiatives.
