Job summary

Rotherham NHS Foundation Trusts Children and Young Peoples Services (CYPS) is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Childrens Acute Healthcare Support Worker to join our friendly and dedicated Childrens Outpatient Department. This is a Band 3 post within our supportive multidisciplinary team, providing essential clinical and non-clinical care to children and young people across a variety of outpatient services. Working within Rotherham Hospitals paediatric outpatient setting means becoming part of a collaborative and innovative team that puts children and families at the centre of everything we do. You will play an important role in ensuring that children and families attending outpatient appointments receive high-quality, safe, and compassionate care. From initial assessment through to treatment and discharge, your role will be central in supporting our paediatric clinicians and you will perform a variety of delegated clinical tasks and contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of outpatient clinics. These include taking and recording basic clinical observations, preparing for and supporting during procedures, assisting with patient comfort and hygiene, and providing essential administrative support.

Main duties of the job

This is a dynamic and rewarding role where you will be an essential part of the paediatric outpatient team, supporting children, families, and professionals in delivering safe, responsive, and child-friendly care. You will need to be adaptable, compassionate, clinically confident (within your scope of practice), and committed to delivering the highest standards of care. Working under the supervision of registered professionals, your role involves a mix of clinical, personal, administrative, and safeguarding responsibilities. As a Band 3 Childrens Acute Healthcare Support Worker in the Outpatients Department, you will provide compassionate, hands-on care to children and young people under the supervision of registered nurses. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Recording vital signs and assisting with clinical tasks such as blood glucose checks, ECGs, wound care, and venepuncture
  • Supporting with personal care needs including hygiene, feeding, and comfort
  • Preparing clinical areas and assisting during outpatient procedures
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring effective communication within the team
  • Promoting patient safety, safeguarding, infection control, and upholding the Trusts values in daily practice.
