Job summary
As a Rota Co-ordinator, youll be joining the Centralised Rota Team within the Medical and Dental Workforce departmenta vital part of our organisation that also covers Medical & Dental HR, recruitment, appraisal and revalidation, and job planning. Our centralised team is responsible for managing medical and dental rotas across key specialties, including General Surgery, Urology, Integrated Medicine, and Emergency Medicine.
This role is central to maintaining safe staffing levels and supporting high-quality patient care through the effective coordination of Consultant, Specialty Doctor, Resident Doctor, and Locally Employed Doctor cover. A solid understanding of doctors contracts and terms and conditions is essential to ensure rotas align with contractual entitlements and meet service needs.

Main duties of the job
This role requires more than just rota managementit demands a proactive, detail-focused individual who understands the impact of effective planning on clinical safety and service delivery. Youll need to be confident working with data, able to prioritise under pressure, and capable of interpreting doctors contractual entitlements, including resident doctor T&Cs and specialty-specific arrangements.
Youll be the central point of contact for rota-related queries, often working with minimal supervision, so sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills are essential. Your ability to communicate effectively with clinicians, managers, agencies and colleagues will make you a trusted and reliable member of the team.
