22.5 hours per week

We are looking for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist CDC to join our team on a fixed term basis for 23 months.

Duties will include:

  • To undertake the role of a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, utilising high levels of decision making and clinical judgment.
  • Ensure that patient assessment needs are met through the provision of the diagnosis and the management of patient conditions through the assessment, treatment and review planning process in partnership with the CDC team, patients and families.
  • To be a part of the assessment team at the Child Development Centre making clear assessment decisions in liaison with the wider team.
  • Providing the assessment, diagnosis and feedback to the families attending the CDC.

Main duties of the job

  • To be a key member of the senior assessment team within the CDC.
  • To manage and provide intervention and assessment as appropriate to the caseload of children referred to the Child Development Centre.
  • To manage a number of highly complex, specialist caseloads of children with speech, language and communication difficulties. This will include assessment, contribution to diagnosis, development and implementation of specialised SLT treatments
  • To act as team lead for designated team members providing clinical supervision and peer support.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of outcomes, participating and contributing in multi-disciplinary assessment and planning in line with local and national health, educational and social policy.
  • To assist in regular meetings for teams and meeting with clinical lead on regular basis to report service/performance issues, new initiatives , actions needed, staffing issues etc
  • Responding to service issues within the team and evaluating and developing the service in line with local and national initiatives and new practice.
  • Responsibility for recruitment process including shortlisting, interviewing and managing induction process.
  • Responsibility for ordering equipment for area of responsibility
  • Conducting PDRs for team and mentor and supervise members of the team
  • Providing some of the management cover over holiday periods
  • To follow NICE guidelines and support care pathways within the CDC

Knowledge

  • Highly developed specialised knowledge around child developmental disorders particularly autism. Acquired through formal and informal study and through working practice/ and experience within the specialist area.
  • Experience of assessing children with SEND and complex needs.
  • Knowledge/experience of managing staff and of policies, practices and procedures relating to managing specialist area e.g NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care
