In Rotherham there are several inclusive special schools dedicated to providing outstanding education and support for children and young people with complex health needs. We are looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Special School Nurse to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have excellent clinical skills, leadership experience, and a commitment to providing high-quality care in a special education setting.

Role Overview:

As the Senior Special School Nurse, you will take the lead in providing skilled nursing interventions for students with a variety of complex health conditions. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating individual care plans, ensuring they are regularly updated, and collaborating closely with medical staff, allied health professionals, and families. You will also provide clinical support, training, and advice to staff, while taking a lead role in child protection for the students in our care.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide skilled nursing care for children and young people with complex health needs within a special education setting.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans for children and young people, ensuring they are regularly updated and reviewed.
  • Monitor the response of young people to therapy interventions, ensuring relevant medical information is effectively communicated to medical staff, allied health professionals, and families as necessary.
  • Take a lead role in child protection for students in this high-risk group, ensuring appropriate actions and safeguarding measures are followed.
  • Undertake "train the trainer" training to cascade knowledge, skills, and assess competence within the team.
  • Offer clinical support, advice, and training to staff in schools to enhance care delivery for students.
  • Safely and appropriately use moving and handling/postural management equipment such as wheelchairs, hoists, bathing aids, electronic profiling beds, and feeding pumps.
