We are delighted to present this opportunity to join our growing emergency department in South Yorkshire seeing 90000 patients per year. We are a friendly district general hospital and Trauma unit caring for both adults and children. This Senior Clinical Fellow post is offered 40% non-clinical time, with the non-clinical time dedicated to developing your ultrasound skills under the guidance of our departmental ultrasound lead. There will be opportunities for supervised shop floor scanning, in order to work towards your RCEM ultrasound logbook requirements and FUSIC or FAMUS accreditation if desired. You will also have the opportunity to deliver ultrasound training to your ED colleagues, and there will be opportunities for audit or quality improvement projects in point-of-care ultrasound. If you wish to pursue a post-graduate certificate in point-of-care ultrasound, clinical supervision will be provided by our ultrasound lead, and funding can be provided for half of the course cost.
We have 17 enthusiastic consultants keen to provide shop floor teaching and long term Educational Supervision as you continue to develop. Our team of clinicians includes an F2, GPVTS, ACCS CT1s, EM HSTs, CESR Doctors and a fantastic cohort of ENPs and ACPs. We also have a Consultant dedicated to medical Education who provides bookable time for supervision and guidance.
Main duties of the job
Facilitate patient assessment, treatment and admission within the Emergency Department.
Facilitate patient discharge.
Liaison with other specialties and agencies including Primary Care within this process.
Requesting diagnostic tests such as X-Ray and laboratory investigations and taking biological samples, manually and through the Trusts computerised systems.
Act in accordance with the policies of the Emergency Department and the Trust and seek advice and assistance from the Consultants when necessary.
Ensure accurate and complete documentation is undertaken for all patient records in line with Trust protocols. This includes coding of clinical information.
Undertake consultations with relatives concerning patients when appropriate, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
When necessary accompany patients being transferred from the Emergency Department to other areas e.g. radiology department for CT or Intensive Care.
Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals in and out of the Trust e.g. specialty teams, GPs about patient care when appropriate.
