Job summary

Internal Secondment, Full time.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Therapy Support Worker to join The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust Intermediate Care Therapy Service delivering rehabilitation/enabling in bed-based 24 hour units.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team of Therapy staff supported by qualified therapists to aid enablement and rehabilitation of patients from across the Rotherham Borough.

The team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, specialist mental health occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and therapy support workers. The team works closely with a wider MDT of social workers, nurses, doctors, Unit managers, care and enabling staff and voluntary sector. The successful candidate needs to be able to work well alone and also as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team. They need to have good communication skills both verbally and non-verbally. They need to have previous experience of working with Occupational Therapists and/ or Physiotherapists and need to be comfortable performing personal care tasks for patients and comfortable working with patients who have complex physical, emotional and psychological challenges.

The successful candidate will require a flexible approach, excellent team working, organisational and time management skills are essential.

The Trust is committed to providing a 7 day therapy service. This role includes participation in a weekend cover rota.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to work alongside qualified Therapists but also work independently managing your own patient caseload, following Therapy support worker plans providing rehabilitation and exercise plans and modify these as clinically indicated within agreed parameters.

Part of the role includes you being able to identify patient suitability for treatment on a day-to-day basis, taking into account changes that may occur in their medical condition and seeking advice from registered staff where appropriate.

You will work across the trusts rehabilitation units and at times be expected to see a patient in their own homes on home visits/Discharge visits/Equipment visits.

Documentation is an integral part of the role and you will be expected to document within the patients electronic records therefore computer skills are essential.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to understand the patients needs and motivate them throughout their journey is an essential part of this role.

Daily undertaking the moving and handling of a patient, using equipment in delivering therapeutic care and Assisting with personal care needs of the patients as required.

Participating in the delivery of a wide range of group to patients whilst they are an inpatient with us.

You will undertake administrative and clerical duties including the ordering of equipment and patient transport from our providers.
