We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Assistant Technical Officer to join our Pharmacy Technical Services team. The successful candidate will be based in the aseptic unit and will assist in the provision of high risk injectable medicines for patients at the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

Our team prepare and dispense bespoke doses of parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy and IV antibiotics. We also supply a variety of emergency kits and prepare non-sterile extemporaneous medicines when required.

We are committed to providing a safe and quality patient centred service. Applicants should be motivated, have good communication skills, and be able to work well as part of a team. They must have the ability to use initiative and work autonomously at times. It is essential that they can work accurately and efficiently whilst following established procedures.

Previous experience of working in a pharmacy environment is desirable, but not essential, as full training will be given. You must have, or be willing to undertake as part of the role, an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Service Skills or equivalent.

Unqualified applicants would start as a Band 2 Assistant Technical Officer, progressing to Band 3 Senior Assistant Technical Officer upon completion of the NVQ Level 2.

Main duties of the job

- Working with the Technical Services team and members of the wider Pharmacy Department.

- Assist in the preparation of injectable medicines. Dispensing injectable medicines.

- Partaking in the maintenance and monitoring of the aseptic unit and equipment.

- Ensuring that stocks are replenished and that facilities and equipment are ready to use.

- Assist in the training and supervision of new and less qualified staff.

- Undertake training and validation appropriate to the role.
