The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is a high performing Trust with integrated services across the community. Our vision is to ensure that patients are at the heart of what we do, providing excellent clinical outcomes and a safe, first class experience. The organisation is ambitious; growing, developing and reaching new grounds in terms of the care it provides for its patients. We are responding proactively and positively to the challenges faced by the NHS. The ultrasound department has an exciting opportunity for a health care professional who has an interest and strong desire to train in ultrasound. This is a fixed term/secondment post for 1.0 WTE. We seek an enthusiastic, hardworking and motivated individual to train through a two year course completing the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound. The training will focus on abdominal, obstetrics and gynaecology. This will be completed by attending Sheffield Hallam University for one day a week for academic study and 4 days a week practical training supported by the Sonographers on site at Rotherham Hospital. Sonographers with a PgCert in Medical Ultrasound are also welcome to apply; they would work towards completing the Post graduate Diploma.

Main duties of the job

The trainee will work alongside the qualified sonographers learning all the practical aspects of the job. They will rotate around the appropriate areas of the department to gain experience in scanning a variety of patients. The trainee will learn how to use and manipulate the ultrasound equipment to achieve the required diagnostic images needed to answer the clinical questions. They will also be taught how to understand the information included on referrals and gain the clinical knowledge required to execute scans independently with a concise and accurate report. The trainee will be familiarised with how to use the various IT systems to ensure the patient is managed appropriately and associated documentation is completed. The trainee will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team. They should be accurate in their work, with attention to details and be able to focus on complex tasks. They will need to be committed to studying at post graduate level and achieving this qualification.
