The Pharmacy Technical Services department at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a dedicated Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our team.

The department is highly regarded and valued within the Trust and has strong involvement in multidisciplinary working. Our aseptic suite was rebuilt and re-opened in 2017, providing us with a modern, spacious, GMP compliant working environment.

We prepare and dispense bespoke doses of high risk injectable medicines including PN, chemotherapy and CIVAs for patients. We also supply a variety of emergency kits and prepare non-sterile extemporaneous medicines when required. We are committed to providing a safe and quality patient centred service. Applicants should be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work well as part of a team to achieve positive patient and service user outcomes. They must have the ability to use initiative and work autonomously. It is essential that they can work accurately and efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining high standards and following established procedures. Post-registration experience of working in an aseptic environment is essential.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Pharmacy Technician will work closely with the Lead Technicians to oversee daily activities within the aseptic unit. You will help to ensure that workload is planned and managed according to priority, and that cleanroom facilities and equipment are properly stocked, maintained, monitored and fit for use.

The successful candidate will partake in aseptic assembly and preparation and be responsible for pre and in-process accuracy checking against complex prescriptions and worksheets. You will assist in the training and supervision of students and less experienced staff and help to ensure that local procedures and GMP standards are upheld. You will be involved in Technical Services governance and contribute towards the development and implementation of new and effective procedures and practices.

Aseptic competencies and validations must be maintained and evidenced accordingly. We encourage further training and development opportunities for technical services colleagues and you would have the opportunity to work towards a nationally recognised accreditation in pre and in-process accuracy checking (PIPC). You will be supported in taking responsibility for an additional duty, such as managing the quality control system, overseeing medicines stock and orders in the department, or mentoring new starters through the training pathway.

If you are looking to build on existing experience and specialise in Technical Services, we are interested in hearing from you!
