We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Speech & Language Therapy Community Team.

The role is to support adults and older people with swallowing and/or communication disorders who may have a range of conditions including respiratory and/ or acquired or progressive neurological conditions.

For the right candidate this may be suitable as Band 5 Development post. On successful completion of the competencies outlined in their development plan, the candidate would progress on to full Band 6 duties and pay.

Supervision will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve working in outpatient clinics such as the Park Rehabilitation Centre, in patients own homes and care homes across Rotherham.

There will also be a requirement to work in an inpatient setting on a regular basis such as to cover leave for other staff members.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Post Graduate or equivalent relevant experience
  • Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Desirable

  • Completed recognised IT course e.g ECDL/Elite/MOST.
  • Membership of RCSLT

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with communication and swallowing disorders including people with dementias, progressive and acquired neurological conditions
  • Experience of user/carer participation and engagement in review/development of services
  • Evidence of development and supervision of staff and students
  • Experience of working within a multi-professional team
  • Experience of both in-patient and out-patient settings

Desirable

  • Experience of management of resources

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of a range of assessment and therapeutic options for treating communication and/or swallowing disorders including conditions associated with dementias and/or progressive and acquired neurological conditions and respiratory diseases
