We are looking for an highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Speech & Language Therapy Community Team.

The role is to support adults with developmental and acquired dysfluency (stammering).

For the right candidate this may be suitable as Band 6 Development post. On successful completion of the competencies outlined in their development plan, the candidate would progress on to full Band 7 duties and pay.

As part of a Band 6 Development post, access to regular supervision from a Dysfluency Clinical Specialist will be arranged.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve working in outpatient clinics such as the Park Rehabilitation Centre providing assessment and therapy via face to face, video and phone consultations as appropriate for the patient.

The post holder will be a source of second opinions, advice, training and support for Speech & Language Therapists and other health professionals working with dysfluency and associated disorders as well as holding a caseload.

There will be a requirement to link in with regional and national Speech & Language Therapy dysfluency specialists as appropriate.

  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Diploma/Degree qualification or equivalent
  • Current HCPC Registration as a Speech & Language Therapist
  • Post-graduate qualifications to Masters level or equivalent with respect to the assessment and management and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders for acquired and progressive neurological conditions

Desirable

  • Membership of Professional body- RCSLT
  • Management/leadership qualification or equivalent
  • Completed recognised IT course e.g.
  • ECDL/Elite/MOST
  • Due to the nature of the role it is desirable that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010

  • Knowledge and experience of using standardised assessments and development of relevant outcome measures in dysfluency disorders to a high degree
  • Demonstrates knowledge of relevant equipment/resources available including assistive technology and therapy software and able to assess and fit where applicable
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant national legislation, guidance and regulatory framework including NSF, NICE, Information Governance, Equality and Diversity, Data Protection, Safe Guarding, Professional and Clinical Guidelines with particular relation to acquired and neurological and respiratory conditions
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and implications for service area
  • Knowledge and evidence of participation in clinical audit and evidence gathering methods
  • Evidence of continuous improvement through benchmarking and sharing and utilising best practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in the work environment and implications for service area
  • Awareness and understanding of relevant health and Social Care legislation eg MCA 2015
