Job summary

We require an enthusiastic and flexible Theatre Porter to join our team at Rotherham NHS Trust. Here we specialise in orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology and emergency surgery including maternity. Working Monday to Sunday for elective and emergency surgery. To support the operating department multidisciplinary team, and under supervision, contribute towards the care of the patients. The post holder will be required to deliver a range of designated duties of a clinical and non clinical nature including personal compassionate care to patients, working within agreed policy and procedures. Responsible for moving and handling of patients between the department, wards, and other relevant departments. Responsible for the transport of medical equipment, specimens, linen, beds, blood products, hazardous substances, drugs and fluids between the theatres and relevant service users. Cleaning of clinical areas as necessary within the department.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of the registered nurse/AHP, knowing what is expected of you, not working outside your role, following reasonable requests and instructions within your work which may include chaperone of patients, transfer of goods and equipment between departments.

Working within agreed competencies and boundaries.

Treating patients and colleagues as individuals respecting their values and behaviours of the Trust.

Focusing on the patient and tasks you are delegated to undertake.

Work collaboratively with colleagues with good clear communication both verbal, written and virtual.

Be able to provide basic life support and maintain competence.

Understanding of how to report an incident or near miss, safe practice with the use of equipment in your role including movement and handling of patients.
