Due to retirement an exciting opportunity as arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the metabolic bone health team.

We are seeking to appoint to the post of Band 6 / 7 dependant on experience and relevant training ie : DEXA reporting course, a Bone Health Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Rotherham Bone Health Department including Falls and Fracture Liaison Service.

The clinical work will take place mostly within the Bone Health element of the department. Undertake Bone Health Clinics and provide care to adult patients with metabolic bone conditions, falls and fractures. Non clinic duties include bone density scan reporting, interpretation of blood results and time for the patient advice line. The post holder will be responsible for managing their own case load of patients as per agreed protocols. Also, support the Bone Health team ensuring efficient flow through the service pathway. Including effective use of the EPR system therefore IT skill are essential for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • Hold CNS Bone Health and Fracture Liaison clinics. Order and collate results of investigations, review, interpret and report DXA scans (post-graduate DXA reporting course already completed, in progress or willingness to complete). Issue clinic letters and reports independently within department protocols. Nurse prescriber or willingness to complete prescriber course
  • Promote best practice, give advice and disseminate knowledge relating to Bone Health, Falls and Fracture Liaison.
  • To have or be willing to undertake NMP (non-medical prescribing) course.
  • Support others in identifying patients at risk of further fractures, falls and metabolic bone disease.
  • Reduce the incidence of patients returning to hospital with subsequent falls and fractures.
  • Refer patients requiring access to The Bone Health Department.
  • Be responsible for quality assurance within the speciality.
  • Attend conferences to improve own knowledge and patient care and disseminate information to colleagues.
  • Refer, organise and support staff and patients attending for intravenous or sub cutaneous therapy for osteoporosis.
  • See patients in clinics with osteoporosis conditions and falls advice, educate and guide these patients through their treatment and follow up pathway, following appropriate training.
  • Liaise directly with GPs and other allied health care professionals both electronically and written as per TRFT policy regarding patient treatments .
