Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant in Respiratory & General Medicine at the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT).This is a full time 10 PA general medicine post with a special interest in respiratory and will be based at Rotherham General Hospital.
The Respiratory Department at the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust has a well-established and highly performing team treating an integrated care pathway across the acute and community setting. The service also has a dedicated community respiratory facility - Breathing Space. The successful applicant will join a team of several Consultants, Training / Junior medics, Department Managers and the nursing team to complement, strengthen and help further develop the service. This is a full-time post and involvesparticipation in a 1:16 on-call rota.

Main duties of the job
The post is integral to maintaining the quality and extent of the service provided by the Department of Respiratory Medicine. It has an integrated care pathway across the acute and community setting.
There are opportunities to specialise in our expanding our lung cancer, pleural procedures and TB service. However, applicants with other respiratory specialist interests are actively encouraged to apply. We have a well-equipped Respiratory Physiology department, which has facilities for full lung function testing, cardio respiratory exercise testing, bronchial hyper-reactivity testing and full allergy testing assessment. There are also facilities for the investigation and treatment of sleep disordered breathing and for long-term non-invasive ventilation.
The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with all other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver clinically effective, safe, high quality Respiratory Medicine Services to the population served. The post holder is expected to undertake service development review and evaluation to improve & expand current practice. All appointees are required to participate in all departmental activities, including audit, sharing the administrative responsibilities and contributing to the further development of the department and the Trust

The Post

Provision of a Respiratory Medicine Service for outpatients, day-cases, in-patients, Consultant referrals, and relevant invasive procedures
Provision of Consultant delivered Respiratory Medicine services as identified in the job plan
Administrative duties to ensure the proper functioning of the department
Provision of cover for colleagues periods of leave
Participation in medical audit, clinical governance and continuing professional development relating to Respiratory Medicine
Management and supervision of medical, nursing and other professional staff within the multidisciplinary care team
Attendance at Divisional, District and Regional meetings, as required, to represent the interests of the specialty, the department and the Trust
The provision of teaching duties as required and specifically to take an active part in the education Programme of trainee medical staff and medical undergraduate students from the University of Sheffield
The provision on a reciprocal basis a Consultant service for Rotherham General Hospital in the absence of his/her Consultant colleagues
The post holder will have full continuing clinical responsibility for patients under his or her care on the Respiratory ward & Respiratory outlying ward and for the provision of treatment relevant to their general medical/gastroenterological condition whilst in hospital. This may include the provision of advice and or assistance to Consultants in other specialties and the proper delegation to and training of junior medical staff
Expectation and encouragement of the completion of research and clinical audit activities as an inherent part of normal clinical duties. There will also be a key role with regard to training medical staff in junior grades and the development of support staff.
