Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic doctor with a passion for medical education and a desire to support the medical and physician associate students as well as the Foundation doctors at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be joining a well-established Medical Undergraduate team that sits within the wider Medical Education team.

Knowledge of the UK Medical School process and UK Foundation teaching programme will help build a foundation to this role and allow you to make a connection with the student and trainees you are supporting.

As well as beside teaching, in house teaching and simulation support, this role will help with self-development and development of non-clinical skills, such as event planning, admin skills, management skills.

Main duties of the job

This post sits within the Medical Director Directorate and is accountable to the Executive via the Associate Medical Director Medical Education.

The post holder will develop their skills in delivering simulation to a wide range of staff including medical students, Foundation and Core trainees.

Exact role to be negotiated with Director of Medical Undergraduate Education and the Clinical Education Team suit current needs and specific skills and interests of appointee.

The Clinical Teaching Fellow would also work one day a week (1 day or 2 x day) supporting Acute Medicine/Frailty as agreed with the Division of Medicine. This clinical commitment will ensure that the post holder maintains their clinical involvement during the attachment, and encounters postgraduate doctors in a clinical setting.

Delivering clinical skills practical procedures to medical and PA students, doctors in training and other healthcare staff

Developing a simulation programme for medical and PA students, doctors in training and other healthcare staff

Prepare and produce resources and IT materials required to support the skills training and simulation courses

Develop simulation teaching packages which reflect current, evidence and policy based practices

Assist with OSCE planning, question generating and assessments

Formative and summative assessment of final year students and FP year 1 trainees in both clinical and class-room environments

To provide mentorship and where needed & individual support to students and trainees

To act as an educational resource and support for final year medical students and FP year 1 trainees including the ongoing development and review of learning packages and resources to support clinical and generic skills acquisition

To attend monthly Team Meetings and bi monthly Medical Education Committee meetings.

To support the development and upkeep of Health Toolbox, website and other electronic support services.

A clinical commitment of up to 1 day per week with the Trust will ensure that the post holder maintains their clinical involvement during the attachment, and encounters postgraduate doctors in a clinical setting.   • At least 24 months experience as a doctor working in a UK Healthcare setting
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk

Qualifications

  • Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC
  • Please confirm your GMC registration number
  • Current ALS certificate
