Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tobacco Treatment Advisor within the Healthy Hospitals Programme of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

Tobacco Treatment Advisors are essential to the success of the Healthy Hospitals Programme, in particularly the QUIT element of the Programme. QUIT is a smoking cessation initiative, funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, aimed at identifying patients admitted to hospital who smoke in order to provide appropriate treatment and support.

We are looking for proactive and enthusiastic candidates that are comfortable with positive change within services. The role is dynamic in the support of our inpatient, outpatient and staff services. We regularly engage in health and wellbeing promotional events and activities within the Trust and across Rotherham.

As a Trust we are investing heavily in the expansion and development of this Programme and the staff that contribute to its success. We are well placed to consider the wider health and wellbeing needs of our patients beyond smoking. Specialist training will be provided to you upon joining the team and will continue as you and the service develop.

Main duties of the job

As a Tobacco Treatment Advisor you will be providing specialist treatment, advice and support to patients that smoke. The service is inpatient based however we also support outpatients and staff that are seeking support in stopping smoking.

We are looking for candidates that are able to communicate well with patients and colleagues, a positive and enthusiastic individual to join this thriving service.

It is essential for this role that you are fully supportive of the Trusts Smoke Free Policy and an advocate for smoke free healthy living. You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community that it serves.

  • Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above in English and Maths
  • Smoking Cessation Training Level 2 or willing to undertake once in post.

Desirable

  • NVQ level 3 in Health Care (or equivalent)
  • Specific training in health promotion interventions.

Experience

  • Experience of working in the NHS in the community or hospital setting
  • Experience of providing healthcare, healthcare advice or health promotion advice to patients or members of the public
  • Experience of providing help, support and / or counselling on a one to one or group basis
