Job summary
The Respiratory and Sleep Physiology department is looking for a committed individual to join an expanding, friendly, high-performing team, as a Senior Healthcare Science Assistant (A4C Band 3) as part of the Clinical Diagnostic Centre (CDC). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who would like to further their career in healthcare science. The service is delivered mainly at the CDC at Breathing Space on Badsley Moor Lane. Occasionally you may be expected to work at one of three local GP practices or at the main hospital site. The department is working towards national accreditation and you will be engaged in activities to support this.You will be involved in the delivery of investigations in the diagnosis and management of respiratory disease and sleep disorders in a range of patients from a variety of backgrounds. Personal development is actively encouraged and CPD activities are supported.Candidates who do not meet the academic qualifications required for the post are encouraged to apply and will be developed in the post up to the required level and paid at Band 2. Qualified staff will be able to perform a range of investigations independently, consistent with your skill level and should you wish, there is the potential to apply for posts to develop further as an Associate Practitioner after which you may apply for degree apprenticeships to become a fully qualified physiologist.
Main duties of the job
On appointment you will be supervised until you achieve full competency in the investigations appropriate to the role and will receive coaching from fully qualified and experienced staff. Depending on your skills and experience, when you have successfully completed your initial period of training, you will be an independent practitioner. You will provide services in the department at Badsley Moor Lane, GP practices and the main hospital. This role is essential to our bid for accredited status. As such you will be expected perform tasks such as calibration, disinfection, replenishing stock and keeping accurate records. The role is heavily IT based so a good knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, and you will be taught how to use the specialist software systems in the department. You will also be expected to complete a number of Mandatory and Statutory Training (MaST) courses such as safeguarding, information governance and health and safety. As a Senior Healthcare Science Assistant you will have line management responsibilities and participate in training of junior staff.The work can be intense and challenging so organisational and time management skills are essential. Achieving academic and professional qualifications is supported and you will be given study time. However a significant amount of study in your own time is expected.
