Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a respiratory nurse who has a passion for respiratory care to join our Community Respiratory Team based at Breathing Space. The Community Respiratory Service, sits within the new Division of Community, Dietetics and Therapy Services. The aim of our service is to provide the best possible, evidence based respiratory care, for the people of Rotherham. Our long-term goal being to improve health outcomes for this group of patients.
Main duties of the job
This role will involve reviewing patients admitted to the community respiratory service with an exacerbation of COPD or other respiratory condition. You will use your respiratory skills and knowledge to assess their suitability for admission onto the exacerbation pathway, with follow up by yourself or another respiratory team member in their own homes for a period up to 14 days. You will provide post discharge follow up clinics for patients who were admitted to hospital for an exacerbation of their respiratory condition but who were unsuitable for the exacerbation pathway. Your role will also involve the assessment and monitoring of long-term oxygen therapy.You will be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the management of COPD and other respiratory conditions. You will possess a diploma in COPD and ideally another respiratory condition. You will have had a number of years working in this speciality and ideally have experience of managing patients experiencing an exacerbation of their COPD, both in the hospital and in the community setting. You will ideally hold an independent nurse prescribing qualification, or be prepared to undertake this. In return, you will receive ongoing support and supervision from the Breathing Space senior team, who will help you to develop your respiratory skills and knowledge with an individualised development plan. Please note that the service works over a seven-day period.
