Job summary

Ensure all data in the rostering system is accurate and up to date and that all changes are actioned daily.To maintain safe staffing by ensuring appropriate numbers of midwives, support workers and ward clerks are available at all times across the continuum of care, with a suitable mix of education, skills and experience to ensure that patient care needs are met, and that the working environment and conditions support colleagues to deliver quality care.Working within the acute maternity team you will support the Lead Midwives in recording, monitoring and maintaining staffing levels during annual leave, study leave and other unplanned absence to ensure continuity of service and clinical safety is achieved.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the Lead Midwives: Create rosters that are efficient, effective, fairly applied and compliant with legal, local and good practice. Ensure the timetable for production of rosters is adhered to as a minimum standard. Design rosters that are safe and effective and meet roster KPIs: Lead Time, Finalisation, NET Hours, Annual Leave, Study Leave, Sickness and Total Leave. Consider all roster requests from staff, ensuring fairness and equity in working patterns and allocation of annual leave and study leave. Planning leave within the Trust parameters set in policy. Work with staff to ensure the roster is an accurate source of information in terms of shifts worked, leave taken and other data. Be responsible for the day to day management of the roster ensuring it operated within locally agreed parameters and limits. Appropriately escalate if staffing levels fall below agreed safety limits, assessing the risk to patient safety and expedite an appropriate solution. Maintain any day to day amendments required for short term unforeseen matters, for example, someone reporting sickness absence. Support with absence management processes Receive and process shift swap requests from the maternity team Process flexible working requests Maintain the roster Work proactively with the Trusts Bank and Agency providers to fill roster gaps when required Analyse and monitor information to assess roster cover against service requirements
