In the role you will act as an advocate for patient care, providing seamless and timely management of patients who have a finding of Cancer of Unknown Primary. Working alongside the Lead Nurse and the Clinical Lead you will help to support patients by providing an individualised and holistic plan of care and aid symptom management and support for patients and their families.
The main purpose of the role will be to provide support to the Lead Nurse and Clinical Lead for Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) service across the acute Trust.
We are looking for an individual who is caring and shows enthusiasm to improve a patients cancer journey and be able to provide support at all levels of this journey, through diagnosis, treatment and end of life care. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively with both patients and the wider MDT whilst working cohesively with the Lead Nurse in the handover and discussion of patient care.
This opportunity requires you to be committed, organised and an excellent communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to work as part of a team, help to co-ordinate the caseload of patients whilst also supporting each other in a fast paced environment.
Main duties of the job
You will ensure Cancer of Unknown Primary patients are managed in a rapid process to ensure there are no delays to diagnosis and treatment ensuring physical and psychological symptoms are managed and professionals are guided on symptom management.
A key aspect of this role will be supporting patients through the uncertainty of a CUP diagnosis and be present for breaking bad news helping clinicians to deliver this sensitively. You will be pivotal in the CUP and Oncology MDT as a key worker and help with the development and running of CUP clinics alongside the service and oncology lead.
The post holder will support the Lead Nurse for Cancer of Unknown Primary in the ongoing pathway developments and CUP Clinics. You will need to show an ability to support change management as the service continues to expand and develop, in particular you will need to be able to communicate to the wider Trust the pathway for CUP patients.
The ability to foster good working relationships and proven ability to work cohesively as part of a team is pivotal
