Job summary

Cancer Support Worker in Breast and Colorectal

15 hours per week

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to work as part of the Breast and Colorectal specialist nursing team to support patients on a cancer pathway, enabling and assisting the CNS in delivering high standards of care. This demanding post requires excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and the ability to communicate and present at all levels.A flexible approach is essential, as is the need to be self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks / objectives.

As a Cancer Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive personalised care and support and information to patients and families following a cancer diagnosis, through treatment and following completion of active treatment. The post holder will work under the direction of the Breast and Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist following agreed policies and guidelines.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for their practice and behaviour under the guidance and supervision of a registered practitioner and become an integrated member of the already existing Breast ad Colorectal nursing team.

Main duties of the job

As a Cancer Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive personalised care, support and information to patients and families following a cancer diagnosis, through treatment and following completion of active treatment. You would be expected to complete holistic needs assessment with patients. The post holder will work under the direction of the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists following agreed policies and guidelines. The post holder will work across both teams, offering appropriate advice and signposting patients to relevant agencies and support.
