Consultant
in Emergency Medicine
The
UECC is seeking to recruit highly motivated and progressive individuals to join
the senior consultant team. The clinicians in the UECC compromise of 13 ED
Consultants, 7 Specialty Registrar posts, 13 Specialty Doctors inc 5 CESR
doctors, 14 Core and Foundation Training Doctors, 4 GP trainees and 9 ACPs
working in EM. We also have a Primary Care
team made up of 7 GPs and 4 Primary Care ACPs working alongside us as well as 6
ENPs running Minor Injuries. We are a separate Division with our own Head of
Nursing, Matron and Governance leads.
The
Urgent and Emergency Care Centre has all the acute facilities expected of a new
ED department, its design enables the integration of the WIC and GPs
out-of-hours service, bringing all emergency care under one roof. With the
complete integration of these services, our attendances reach in excess of
120,000, including both adults and paediatrics. As well as a new six bedded
resus and separate paediatric areas, it includes an upper floor with a large
seminar room, meeting room and several additional rooms for teaching and
meetings as well as excellent staff facilities.
Main duties of the job
Applications
are welcome from those just completing their specialist training as well as
established consultants looking for a new challenge. Both full and part time
will be considered as well as job shares. Prospective candidates should have
completed a recognised training programme in Emergency Medicine and be GMC
registered. Candidates must also be on the Specialist Register or be within 6
months of their completion of specialist training at interview. We would
welcome applications from those with a specialist interest in PEM , ambulatory
care , geriatrics or other areas and are willing to be flexible with job plans
to facility this after negoitiation.

Department

located on the main hospital site and on the same level as the Surgical Wards,
the Acute Medical Unit, Theatres, Intensive Care and the Department of Medical
Imaging Unit, giving easy access to all these departments. The Fracture Clinic
and X-ray Department are also adjacent.
The Emergency
Medicine Department currently uses Symphony software, enabling the doctors to
carry out clinical coding quickly and easily, thus aiding audit and research.
The total
annual attendances are approximately 105,000 a year.
The new development will include:
6 bedded resuscitation
room
A 4 bedded rapid
initial assessment area in majors (RAT)
18 bay major area
Significantly
enlarged minor area with an assessment & procedure cubicles, eye/ ENT room
Relatives room
and a bereavement bay
5 paediatric
cubicles, a paediatric resus bay and separate childrens waiting room.

The Post
The
Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and Rotherham CCG recognise the vital role that
Emergency Medicine contributes to the quality of care patients receive when
they need access to Emergency Care. As a result, it has agreed to invest,
significantly, in an Emergency Centre, including the expansion of the number of
consultants from the current establishment of 12 consultants in the Emergency
Department (ED).
Emergency
and Acute Medicine are working collaboratively to develop quality services for
patients presenting with acute conditions. Appointment to this post will add to
the team of dedicated and highly motivated Emergency Medicine Consultants.
The
successful applicants will have wide training and experience in Emergency Medicine.
The post holders will be encouraged to develop specialist interests to fit in
with the departmental scope of practice.
There are a number of opportunities for specific roles within the
department including paediatrics; ambulatory care; simulation and resus/ITU
focus. Candidates are encouraged to discuss any areas of interest with the
clinical lead. Related research ideas
are welcome.
At present

to a population in excess of 255,000.

rota has recently changed to a self-rostered annualised rota providing
consultant shop-floor presence from 8am to midnight seven days a week. The
successful candidate will work across all areas of the emergency department,
managing both adult and paediatric patients and contributing to the on-call
rota.
