Band 4
Full Time, 16 month Secondment/Fixed Term
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for someone experienced in healthcare to join our new Education and Development Team as a Pastoral Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW). Working closely with our Education and Development Practitioner for HCSW Recruitment & Retention, you will support our HCSW workforce from recruitment to induction, care certificate and into clinical practice.
You will need to be self-motivated and have the enthusiasm and commitment to form effective and mutually supportive work partnerships to help our HCSW work and thrive.
Main duties of the job
You will assist the Education and Development Team (EDT) by supporting HCSWs during their induction programme and to achieve their core skills and completion of the Care Certificate programme. You will actively facilitate individualised staff development and support by acting as a buddy on clinical duties by providing support, guidance, mentorship and coaching.
The role contributes towards developing a culture of learning and innovation, developing high quality learning environments. You will support the EDT in evaluating the learning activities and programme redesign in order to meet organisational and individual needs.
You will also work alongside HCSWs requiring development, especially those new to care. This could be multiple members of staff on any given day, competing for demands of attention and time and would be expected to prioritise their time efficiently to effectively manage these requests in order of urgency, escalating issues and concerns to senior members of the team as appropriate.
You will be exposed to colleagues suffering burnout, emotional distress and who are considering leaving the Trust, you will need the skills for these difficult conversations; offering advice, support, and reassurance. In some instances, you may need to advocate for the staff member if they identify unfair or unjust treatment. The post holder will also have to stay motivated, enthusiastic and role model these behaviours at all times for the benefit of others seeking their guidance.
