This is a development role with an 18-month fixed-term contract. Post holders who meet milestone requirements will have the potential to transition to a permanent Junior Clinical Coding role and subsequently an Accredited Clinical Coder role on completion of the National Clinical Coding Qualification. You will benefit from expert on the job training from qualified clinical coders. Please Note: There will be a longlisting process in which candidates who meet the post requirements will be invited to a coding aptitude test. Those who are successful in the test will be invited to interview.
What we offer: You will attend a 21 day Clinical Coding Standards Course and receive mentoring by senior colleagues in the department. You will learn how to extract clinical information from patient records to identify diagnoses and procedures in line with national standards. You will be supported to sit the National Clinical Coding Qualification within three years in post.
Main duties of the job
Learn how to extract clinical information from patient records to identify diagnoses and procedures.
Attend a 21 day Clinical Coding Standards course and internal training and mentoring by senior colleagues in the department
Read detailed patient medical records to determine accuracy of data extraction. This may involve exposure to potentially disturbing information.
Translate clinical information into codes adhering to national coding qualifications. This will require the development of extensive knowledge of coding standards and medical terminology, as well as the application of analytical and judgment skills.
