Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals is in one of the UK's largest acute teaching hospital Trusts and has a national and international reputation for many of its specialist services and expertise. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic pharmacist to work with our HIV, Infectious Diseases and Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) teams.

The successful candidate will work directly with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and with our patients in our clinics and on wards to provide excellent pharmaceutical care.

The post holder will also provide leadership and support to the junior members of this team, based at the City Hospital Campus.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for working directly with our clinicians, nurse specialists and finance teams to deliver safe and effective treatment to patients within the HIV, Infectious Diseases and Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) teams.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated clinical pharmacist to take on responsibility for a group of exciting, high profile clinical specialities.

Act as an expert resource on the safe and effective use of medicines for the management of HIV.

Support the safe and effective provision of medicines via homecare and the outpatient pharmacy for HIV patients, including the timely clinical screening of prescriptions.

Involvement in education and training of a variety of healthcare professionals including diploma and pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy undergraduate students.

Contribute to HIV/GUM service development and national cost saving schemes.

You will also be required to participate in a rostered weekend and bank holiday rota. In addition to this there is a requirement to support the on-call pharmacists through the senior pharmacist back-up rota.

The pharmacy department at NUH is forward thinking and constantly implementing innovative ways of working to deliver the best possible patient care. We continue to extend the ideal model of delivering medicines optimisation and pharmaceutical care where pharmacists are fully integrated into the medical teams, supported by a team of medicines management technicians and assistants.
