Job summary

We are seeking competent and motivated individuals to work within our Maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals.

The candidate needs to demonstrate reliability, flexibility and be highly motivated and seeking a challenge and who thrive in a busy environment - you must be committed to co-operative team working at all times.

The post is part time/ full time hours based at Nottingham City Hospital. Our support workers play a pivotal role within our multi-professional team, providing support to the team and high-quality care to pregnant people in line with national recommendations. The role is demanding yet rewarding.

The Maternity Care Assistant (MCA) is part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients. Support and supervision is provided by a Registered Healthcare Professional (RHP). Post holders will be involved in providing personal care to patients, they will not be involved in performing clinical activities.

The role may require working across other areas of maternity.

In summary, the role of a MCA is to support with basic cares to pregnant people and newborn babies. This role doesn't include supporting with clinical tasks.

To participate in personal career development plan and undertake the national care certificate and care certificate competency requirements.

Maintain skills and develop personal growth through training and education at Level 2 or equivalent experience

To keep up to date with mandatory training.

Policies, procedures and standards To maintain patient confidentiality at all times and follow information governance policies and procedures.

They will comply with all relevant legislation, Caldicott Guidelines and local policies regarding confidentiality and access to medical records.

To participate in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, e.g. food and fluid intake charts to ensure effective communication.

To follow NUH policies and procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for patients and colleagues.

To follow work area procedures for the use of supplies and equipment in order to promote the effective and efficient use of resources.

Resources Support key aspects of housekeeping and stock control, contributing to the smooth running of the ward/department.

Carefully handles patient/client valuables (e.g cash, jewellery, electronic equipment and other personal belongings) in accordance with Trust policies and procedures

Assist with the preparation and cleaning of patient areas.
