Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at NUH for a Permanent Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant to join a well-established physiotherapy team at the Queens Medical Centre. This post will cover 4 wards with various medical specialities including; diabetes, rheumatology, gastroenterology and endocrinology.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and dynamic individual who is passionate about providing rehabilitation in the acute hospital environment.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with a qualified physiotherapist to assist the day to day management of patients on various medical wards. You will be working in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.
You will be expected to assess and treat patients with varying levels of mobility and will carry out individualised treatment programmes. You will work as part of a dynamic MDT whilst contributing to patient centred discharge planning. You will contribute to the wider physiotherapy team by ordering equipment, recording activity data and completing admin tasks such as community rehabilitation referrals.
You will have the opportunity to be an active part of the team's service development projects, ensuring our patients receive high quality, evidence based, and patient centred care.
The role also requires the individual to be an active member of the weekend and bank holiday rotas.
The successful candidate will have had previous experience in the health and social care sector.
Main duties of the job

- Assessing and treating mobility patients
- Progressing a patient's mobility
- Issuing walking aids as deemed appropriate
- Undertaking exercise programmes with patients
- Working as part of the multidisciplinary team
- Participating in discharge decision making
- Working within scope of practice and escalate concerns or complex patients to a qualified physiotherapist
- Attending and participating in team teachings, supervision and appraisal
- Attending team meetings
- Ensuring that NUH's values and behaviours are embedded in your everyday practice.
You will be familiar with providing care to patients and working with a wide range of equipment to promote independence. You will possess excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a supportive team. You will be organised, motivated and self-directed to enable you to organise your workload and priorities.

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies, Outpatients and Phlebotomy Services (TOPS) Directorate, within the Specialist Clinical Services care group. We are a diverse directorate of AHPs, nursing and support staff, employing around 1000 staff, working together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the directorate leadership team have AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.
