Applications are invited for the post of Fellow in Gastroenterology at NottinghamUniversity Hospitals NHS Trust. This post could be a useful contribution to the trainingof individuals who are seeking specialist registration in Gastroenterology in the UK. Thesuccessful applicant will join a cohesive and progressive gastroenterology andhepatology department with a strong clinical and academic national profile. We arelooking for a dynamic individual who has completed their core medical training, hasclear commitment to the speciality and ideally has experience of working in theNHS. We aim to deliver an experience as nearly as possible equivalent to that of ourSPRs to ease the demonstration of equivalence of training.This post is offered initially for one year fixed term starting August 2025 but potentiallyextendable to a maximum of 2 years. To further mirror the experience of SPRs ingastroenterology we are exploring the possibility of rotation to another local trust
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be allocated both in and out-patient sessions in Gastroenterology inblocks and will also contribute to the GIM on call rota. During inpatient blocks, inaddition to supporting the daily Consultant ward round, the applicant will provideongoing review of patients during the working day to allow constant evaluation of care,with the support of our junior doctor ward team. The fellow will also support the on-callGastroenterology team, reviewing new admissions prior to their arrival on the ward andproviding emergency out-patient reviews. Outpatient blocks will be for the delivery ofoutpatient care and endoscopic sessions may be available dependent upon demandand experience. The GIM rota pattern currently includes a mix of long days and nightswith set roles and responsibilities for each shift including the acute unselected take,being a crash bleep holder as well as experience working in acute stroke, level 1 andthe acute respiratory care unit.
