Job summary

The post is a 9 month fixed term 0.4 WTE Band 8a post (maternity cover) in the Department of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic Clinical Psychologist interested in continuing the development of our recently established cancer psychology service for colorectal cancer.

The postholder will work with a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in cancer services, and five other Clinical Psychologists to provide a highly specialist level 4 psychology service to colorectal cancer patients at NUH. This is part of a recent development of a cancer psychology service within NUH.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will undertake psychological assessment and time-limited 1:1 interventions for people living with cancer and late treatment effects, both inpatients and outpatients. The kinds of presenting problems will be wide ranging, including: psychological adaptation to serious and life threatening illness, tolerating demanding treatments, coping with side and late effects, making difficult treatment decisions amongst others. The postholder will also offer supervision, consultation and training to clinical staff working with colorectal cancer patients.,

Clinical supervision will be provided by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, as appropriate to the experience and needs of the successful candidate. The postholder will mainly be based at City Campus, NUH, but may be required to work at the QMC campus. They will be part of a department that already has an excellent track record in establishing cancer services, with a highly regarded service for people with a blood cancer. It is active in psycho-oncology research and in contributing to national initiatives in the specialty.
