Job summary

The Breast Cancer Service are dedicated and passionate about providing outstanding healthcare to our patients and strive to ensure that patients meet the timed milestones on their pathway.

The Breast Cancer Patient Pathway Navigator will play a crucial role in the proactive management of patients referred onto the pathway. The post holder will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure patients receive comprehensive and timely investigation of suspected Breast cancers. They will be expected to proactively break down any barriers to access and provide a key point of contact for patients. The post holder will work with the wider MDT to develop processes conducive to meeting timed milestones as set out in the National Guidelines.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for monitoring the patients referred to the Breast service on a cancer pathway, from first appointment to first treatment and beyond.

You will work closely with the Breast MDT coordinators to ensure that patients are listed for discussion at the appropriate points in their pathway.

You will contact patients pre/post MDT to arrange appointments as necessary.

You will attend Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings facilitating any actions to ensure the timely provision of care for patients.

You must be able to work accurately, at pace and in the pressured environment of fast paced clinical discussion.

You will need to possess confidence to enable effective communication with various disciplines to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Typing and minute taking skills are desirable, along with the confidence to speak and manage a meeting in front of a group of people, as there is potential for covering MDT meetings in times of unexpected absence.

This role does involve patient contact.
