Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgery & Associated Services, Care Group for a Band 6 Senior Screener working within the Diabetic Eye Screening Service. The post is full time 37.5 hours per week based at Ropewalk House in Nottingham City Centre.
You should be able to work both as part of a team and independently and present excellent communication and interpersonal skills within the multidisciplinary team. You will be responsible for ensuring adequate screening and grading capacity, staff meet training, education and competency compliance, work to internal governance requirements and work in line with National Quality Assurance Standards. You will be required to work closely with various NUH, DES colleagues and other external organisations.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the specialty management team for Ophthalmology to deliver the Trust vision of "we will be known for our pursuit of outstanding health outcomes and excellent patient and staff experience."
To assist the Programme Manager to develop and lead the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme across the Greater Nottingham region. They will support the day-to-day operational management of the local programme.
The aim of the Greater Nottingham Diabetic Eye Screening Programme is to reduce the risk of sight loss amongst people with diabetes by the prompt identification and effective treatment if necessary of sight threatening diabetic retinopathy, at the appropriate stage during the disease process

Carry out grading in line with National Grading Criteria Arbitration, Referral Outcome Grading green queue.
Complete 10 Test & Training sets per year in line with National Guidance
To carry out visual acuity testing and administer prescribed eye drops to patients in accordance with trust policy and national guidelines.
To photograph diabetic patients in the community and hospital, using a non-mydriatic camera
Identify any patients where there is progression of diabetic eye disease or deterioration of vision, and decide on an appropriate management pathway for the patient.
Provide an efficient and safe service to the patients
Service Delivery
Develop with support of the Programme Manage appropriate systems and processes alongside Failsafe, Administration teams, and the Programme Management team to ensure operational effectiveness of specialties across a number of key performance indicators including access targets and finance.
Develop and review plans to achieve patient access targets at service level
Ensure Administration teams are active in developing their own processes to support continued service delivery and improvements.
Support the Programme Manager to identify the impact of changes to services or increases in services on resources and negotiate changes in resource where appropriate.
Where identified communicate and implement process changes in services to Screeners, Graders and Administrative & Clerical Staff.
Support the Programme Manager in using activity information and actively manage demand and capacity.
To manage and monitor changes to the administrative systems of the service (e.g. ESR).
In the Programme Managers absence provide operational expertise and support to service users and stakeholders such as advising CCGs, commissioners and other services.
Contribute to the business planning process at service level by supporting the Programme Manager to provide activity information to support the service planning process.
Assist in the production of business cases and where appropriate assist with project management for service development.
Demonstrate to external quality assurance bodies that the programme is run effectively and meets all quality assurance standards.
Grade retinal images according to the national grading criteria. (Subject to training)
