Job summary

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and self -motivated registered nurse to help lead the nursing team and develop services in Interventional Radiology Theatres on the City site of NUH as Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse.

The successful candidate will support the Band 7 Sister to lead a team of staff to provide a high quality service; ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained before, during and after having a procedure in Interventional Radiology Theatres. They will facilitate the IR outreach service to ensure all inpatient and elective patients for interventional radiology are fully prepared for their procedure

You will be an effective role model, delivering regular clinical care. The provision of clinical and non-clinical governance is an essential part of the role.

We require an enthusiastic and conscientious team player with excellent communication skills who is well motivated and reliable. Previous experience/current experience within Interventional Radiology Theatres is desirable.

Job responsibilities

To support the Band 7 Sister to lead a team of staff to provide a high quality service; ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained in Interventional Radiology Theatres.

Regularly take charge of the department as IR Co-ordinator organising and planning theatre lists and smooth running of the department. Ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.

Be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and nonclinical governance. Assist in providing staff development

Work flexibly as a member of the department team and in support of the department Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved.

Utilise and integrates evidence into practice.

To work flexible hours particularly covering a late finish, and providing an out of hours on-call nursing service as required by the department to meet the needs of providing patient care

Have an understanding of local safety rules, protective clothing and equipment, (including wearing a lead apron for several hours at a time whilst working clinically) with regards to working in an area using radiation.

Following a protocol for Radiology, nurses are required to administer IV sedation to patients undergoing specific procedures, such as trans-jugular liver biopsies, PTCs (Percutaneous trans hepatic cholangiogram) and Radiological Inserted Gastrostomy.

To assist the Radiologist as scrub nurse with invasive radiological procedures such as angioplasty, embolisation, stenting and biopsies.

To have an active role in the scheduling of elective patients, ensuring that patients are fully prepped and prioritised appropriately prior to their admission by attending weekly schedule meeting and collaborating with the IR booking co-ordinator
