Job summary
Full-time Locum Consultant Oesophago-Gastric (OG) and General Surgeon for Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust for 12 months starting January 2025.
The post holder will work alongside the other Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeons and be responsible to the Head of Service for OG surgery and the Divisional Director for Surgery.
The successful candidate will be expected to have passed the Intercollegiate exam in General Surgery (or equivalent) and have been awarded their CCT at the time of the start date. Applicants are expected to have extensive experience, including a post-CCT fellowship, in OG surgery and in emergency general surgery.
Main duties of the job
This post is to support provision of Oesophago-Gastric (OG) and General Surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) and outreach activity at either Sherwood Forest Hospitals or United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The post holder will join an established team of five other UGI consultants within the UGI unit at NUH's City Campus. The post-holder will be expected to participate in the Emergency General Surgery rota at QMC to provide out-of-hours emergency cover, in conjunction with the other General/Specialty Surgeons.

Weroutinely treat a wide range of conditions including Oesophageal and Gastric Cancers, Gastro-Oesophageal eflux conditions, Gastro-Intestinal Stromal Tumours (GIST), hiatus hernias, achalasia and Barrett's oesophagus.
We work closely with our colleagues in the Oesophago-Gastric Cancer multi-disciplinary team which includes consultant surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, gastroenterologists and radiologists, as well as nurse specialists, dieticians, endoscopists and many others.
We are the second largest Oesophago-Gastric Cancer centre in the country and we are heavily involved in teaching, research, and innovation.

- Full GMC registration with a current licence to practice
