Job summary
The role of the Perinatal Family Liaison Officer (FLO) will support families and carers throughout the investigation process following a Patient Safety Incident or a complaint related to a service user. Acting as a single point of contact, the FLO will build a positive, trusting relationship with families to ensure their voices are at the heart of the investigation. This role also extends to families identified by the Independent Maternity Review of Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, currently led by Donna Ockenden and her team.
The purpose of the role is to ensure families and carers are treated with compassion and professionalism in respect to their individual needs. The role requires the highest degree of sensitivity, communication and integrity and will include the provision of support to newly bereaved individuals some of whom may be deeply distressed.
Main duties of the job
To be the main point of contact and liaison for those families who have been identified through the Independent Maternity Review, through the complaints process or through a Patient Safety Incident. The post holder will identify and establish relationships with families and carers as soon as possible.
2 Establish communication with affected families, guiding and supporting them through the IMR, complaints, and investigation processes until conclusion, as required. This will include providing clear and accurate information about the Trust's investigation procedures to meet the needs of each family and carer as reasonably as possible.
Ensure equal opportunities for global minorities, particularly by addressing language barriers. This includes utilising appropriate interpreting services to enhance both verbal and written communication, ensuring service users have equal access to support regardless of the language they speak
To set and maintain professional boundaries at all times providing clear communication to manage expectations and ensure service users have clarity around the purpose of the FLO role.
