Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals is seeking a full-time Consultant Cardiologist with sub-speciality expertise in invasive cardiac electrophysiology and complex device implantation at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.This is a replacement post and has been configured to support the increasing demand for complex cardiac electrophysiology / ablation and advanced pacing procedures within the Trust. The post will also contribute to the acute cardiology service providing additional support for the increased number of patients admitted with acute general cardiac conditions.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join a team of 23 consultant cardiologists and will contribute to a comprehensive consultant-led secondary and tertiary cardiology service. He/she will have broad experience in all aspects of clinical cardiology, with particular expertise in advanced electrophysiology and complex device implantation. This post will include 3-4 sessions of work per week in the cardiac catheter labs. The workload will compromise a mixture of interventional electrophysiology and simple / complex device implantation.

Most activity will be delivered within the tertiary centre at NUH. The appointee will participate in the Consultant of the week rota rotating through the Acute Cardiac Unit and in-patient wards currently on a 3:20 rotation. They will also participate in the QMC rota also currently 1:10. Weekend on-call is 48 hours from Saturday 9am until Monda8y 9am also on a 1:10 basis. The appointee may be offered the opportunity to exchange some or all weekends on call for two separate Sunday morning ward rounds without any weekend on call duties by mutual agreement. This results in working 1:5 Sundays without any Saturdays or any weekend on call. On-call frequency may change with future appointments and with the needs of the service. Time off in-lieu is given following weekend working.

About us

Secondary and tertiary cardiology services are delivered on both NUH campuses, at Queens Medical Centre (QMC) and Nottingham City Hospital (NCH). The tertiary catchment covers Nottingham and surrounding districts, North Nottinghamshire, and parts of Lincolnshire and Derbyshire (population approximately 1.3 million). Secondary cardiology services in Nottingham are provided over both campuses, with the majority of acute cardiac admissions coming through the emergency department based on the QMC campus.

TheTrent Cardiac Centre (TCC) is a bespoke cardiac services building providing two new cardiac catheter laboratories, a day case unit, and day case echocardiography. There are also two cardiac surgical theatres, dedicated cardiac intensive care and high dependency units, and combined cardiology and cardiac surgical ward accommodation.
