Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to join the Rehabilitation Team.

Here at the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) you will join an innovative, forward thinking team transforming the future of rehabilitation for people who have experienced injury or illness. The appointee will be based temporarily at Linden Lodge until we transition to the NRC Summer 2025. Linden Lodge is a 2b specialist inpatient rehabilitation unit with outpatient clinics located in City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre. Patients on Linden Lodge have a range of conditions including acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, neuropathies and polytrauma.

The appointee should have a special interest in specialist rehabilitation and appropriate training and support will be made available. There are opportunities to gain specific experience with neuro-musculoskeletal procedures including spasticity management.

Main duties of the job

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This post is primarily intended to provide day to day inpatient care, including all relevant medical and rehabilitation issues, together with

  • Clerking of admissions
  • Assessment and formulation of management plans in conjunction with the MDT
  • Mental capacity assessment
  • Continuing care and re-assessment
  • Discharge and communication with the primary care physician and other involved professionals.
  • Referral assessments
  • Family meetings and communication.

This post is supervised by Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine. There is access to radiological services through the acute trust via electronic requesting. NUH now uses electronic prescribing and medical records are accessible through electronic patient records in addition to paper based records. Out of hours the service is supported by the Acute Trust.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT DUTIES

  • The post holder will be expected to keep up-to-date in their knowledge, by attendance at audit and academic activities. Personal involvement in audit and research activity will be encouraged and supported
  • To participate in an annual medical appraisal process and revalidation.
  • To ensure professional standards are maintained
  • To liaise with other professionals and voluntary organisations as necessary.
  • To assist in training for students (e.g. nursing, occupational therapy, psychotherapy and medical)
  • To participate in monitoring and evaluating the quality and outcomes of service delivery.
