Job summary

Digital Services comprises a multidisciplinary team of professional staff concerned with providing a wide range of services in information, knowledge management; computing and telecommunications many of these are large multi-user systems, with many interfaced together.

The End User Computing Team comprises several permanent support staff on multiple sites whose priority is to provide 2nd line desktop support to the NUH staff by the management of the call management system.

In addition the team provides:

Installs, moves and changes.

Management of the Desktop and printer estate.

This role is to support the teams with projects to help with the development of state of the art services using mobile technology for recording clinical notes and digital health records.

The use of IT in the NHS is an essential part of the modernization of the service and the postholder will have to bring themselves up to speed with developments in healthcare IT, particularly with regards to Connecting for Health and initiatives from the department of Health with reference to IT.

The core operational hours are currently Monday-Friday 8am until 5pm however these are regularly reviewed in line with the business requirements of our customer base. The Service Desk offer support from 7am until 6pm.

Main duties of the job

As one of our Junior EUC Technicians, the current focus of your role will be on the configuration and deployment of new endpoint equipment such as PCs, Laptops, and associated peripherals.

This focus, and the specific technologies you support will evolve as you build your experience, and as our service requirements change.

To handle service tickets as instructed by the EUC Manager.

To visit customer locations or use remote tools to assist in troubleshooting or resolution of incidents.

To configure and install hardware on receipt through co-ordinated projects.

To work with remote Technical Support teams, bringing together standards and ideas.

To install desktop software, and ensure desktop and any peripheral devices are fully compliant and meet Security standards.

To be responsible for the repairing of peripheral equipment.

To work to policies and procedures of the Directorate, assisting with amending those relevant to EUC as required.

Delivery and installation of I.T. equipment throughout the Trust.

Identify trends and issues of concern in order to suggest service improvements to the EUC Manager in order to improve the service.

Understand the Business Continuity and disaster recovery plan for the Technical Operations team.

Delivery and installation of I.T. equipment throughout the Trust.

To ensure when on call you are available to respond and do so following the on call process.

To undertake any other duties that could reasonably be required.

  • oSupporting Windows OS, Active Directory and software deployment tools.

Planning and organisation skills

  • oAble to manage several tasks at one time and demonstrates ability to cope with unpredictable behaviour

Desirable

  • oProven ability to follow planned and organized installations to customer satisfaction.

Physical skills

Essential

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment (PC's, Printers and Monitors) whilst installing.
  • Able to sit for long periods of time at a desk in front of a computer workstation and has advanced keyboard skills.
  • Able to work full time on site
  • Holder of a full UK Driving Licence for manual gearbox vehicles

  • Previous experience working in an ICT support role
