Job summary
Are you keen to join a motivated group of professionals in an acute surgical setting? A fantastic opportunity has arisen on our Surgical Triage Unit (STU), a fast paced unit specialising in emergency surgical assessment.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Surgical Nurses to work with the multi-disciplinary team within the Nottingham Emergency General Surgery Service.
There will be opportunity to develop your nursing and leadership skills, and a variety of clinical skills as well as enjoying a different challenge every day.
Successful candidates will receive preceptorship support and full orientation, in addition to the opportunity to develop valuable skills. You will have support from both management and our clinical educator for all your development needs based on ZEST, a supportive framework that we have integrated into daily life with our team.

Main duties of the job
You will be involved in the initial assessment process on STU, working alongside multiple different members of the emergency team which ranges from our experienced and knowledgeable CSWs, Nurse Practitioners from the different specialities (Emergency General Surgery, Vascular, ENT & Max Fax), our own nursing team and the surgeons and Consultants. You would be expected to assess patients and support consultant colleagues in diagnosis and treatment of surgical patients, as well as ensuring patients who are not found to have generally surgical diagnosis to be moved to the area best suited for their diagnosis. You will work closely with the Capacity and Flow Team in both the STU and the assessment ward (C31) in order to facilitate the flow of patients as patient flow is always a top priority within the Trust.
You will be expected to provide high quality direct nursing care including risk assessing of patients in a timely manner to show that excellent care is provided, as evidenced by our nursing Dashboards. Working within Trust guidelines and policies you will promote patient safety and seek to enhance the patient experience. You will require excellent organisational skills and the ability to work at a fast pace as a number of our patients need preparing for emergency surgery, as well as receiving post-operative patients back to the ward, ED admissions and direct admissions from home.
