Interpreting & Translation Services Administrator

Job summary

You will be required to work within the NUH Inclusion team providing high quality administrative and clerical support to the Interpreting and Translating Services. You will be responsible for coordinating telephone, email and electronic diary bookings for the NUH interpreting service for non-English and Limited English Speaking patients by allocating freelance and volunteer interpreters to bookings based on set criteria.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to work within the NUH Inclusion team providing high quality administrative and clerical support to the Interpreting and Translating Services. You will be responsible for coordinating telephone, email and electronic diary bookings for the NUH interpreting service for non-English and Limited English Speaking patients by allocating freelance and volunteer interpreters to bookings based on set criteria.

You will use MS Outlook and Excel to keep an up to date diary and record of interpreting bookings and monitor this to continually assess demand.

You will coordinate meetings for the interpreting services manager and take minutes at department meetings if required. You will also provide regular updates to the interpreting manager.

You will be proficient in using Microsoft Office, and possess excellent communication skills. A high level of written and spoken English is therefore required.

Training and qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 2 or 8 passed GCSEs , English & Mathematics 6 or higher grade
  • Computer literate - working knowledge of Microsoft office, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint

Desirable

  • A level in Business

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

  • Evidence of being able to write and speak with clarity and with awareness of what information the reader needs.
  • Evidence of being able to recognise own role as part of an effective team.

Analytical and Judgement skills

  • Evidence of ability to work in line with standard procedures.
