Job summary
We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, committed, apprentice biomedical scientists to join us in providing a first rate Biochemistry service at NUH. We are seeking good team players who will work in the Biochemistry section of Clinical Pathology contributing to its on-going strategic development. A commitment to continuing education and training is fundamental. A meticulous and conscientious approach is required. Successful candidates will demonstrate good interpersonal skill through the ability to communicate clearly and have the ability to analyse facts and situations in order to make appropriate assessments.

As an Apprentice Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be a member of the departmental team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust's objectives. To provide that service in a manner commensurate with the profession. This post involves working towards HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist. This role involves both academic study at Nottingham Trent University and Laboratory training at Nottingham University Hospitals.
The post holders' main role is to assist in the examination of pathological samples using various technologies and to present the results as appropriate.
The post holder will be required to work at both NCH and QMC campuses and will be required to participate in the out of hours roster, covering a 24/7 service from year two onwards.
About us
NUH NHS Trust is a large, teaching hospital comprising two sites, the Queens Medical Centre and the City Hospital. QMC provides acute services supporting a busy emergency service and trauma centre. City Hospital departments include Clinical Haematology, Oncology, Transplantation and Cardiac services. Biomedical Scientists work in laboratories at both sites on a rotational basis. The Biochemistry team contributes to the development of laboratory services which are patient focussed. These include both 24/7 acute, highly automated functions and specialist services embracing Trisomy Screening, Myeloma monitoring, Inborn Errors of Metabolism investigation and Immunosuppressant drug monitoring. The Biochemistry laboratory is an IBMS accredited training provider.
