Job summary

The haemoglobinopathy service is seeking to recruit a registered nurse who is looking to develop their clinical skills and experience of managing a group of patients affected by sickle cell and thalassemia. You will be a vital team player working within a vibrant, forward-thinking team who are expanding the Haemoglobinopathy service. We are looking to appoint a professional ,skilled nurse with excellent communication skills and a passion for providing a high standard of care to our nurse led haemoglobinopathy service. We are seeking a nurse with expert knowledge (theoretical and clinical) of sickle cell disease and thalassemia and its effects and impact on our local population. You will need to have the ability to work within an acute hospital setting as well as within a community setting. Experience running nurse-led clinics and genetic counselling.

Main duties of the job

The post is a clinical nurse specialist role, within the Trust , integral to the provision of high quality Haemoglobinopathy Services for patients. The post holder should be able to work autonomously in nurse led clinics. They will have clinical responsibilities and provide specialist knowledge care and support to patients diagnosed with a Haemoglobinopathy. This post will also implement relevant national policies on Haemoglobinopathies at a local level.

  • Within a B6 Scope of Practice, act as the clinical and professional resource to the patients, carers and multi-professional team, within the Sickle Cell & Thalassemia Service.
  • Support the B7 in the day-to-day management of sickle cell and thalassemia patient caseload as designated, ensuring the nursing care delivered is of a high standard.
  • To work with the Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team and the network, to assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines and to effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the specialist area.
  • To work alongside other specialist nurses/Lead Nurse to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality service.
  • Directly or indirectly, influence all aspects of care and management for patients within the service/speciality.
  • Deliver high quality, clinically effective care, patient experience, utilizing research in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
  • Act as a role model and clinical resource for junior staff, demonstrating high standards of care.
  • Support the B7 in the development and delivery of a programme of practice and professional development of staff within a speciality.
  • Support the B7 to continue to develop the sickle cell and Thalassaemia service.
