Job summary

We require proactive and hardworking staff to work as part of a team within the Food Production department at our Central Production Unit at City Campus and Receipt and Distribution Unit at the QMC Campus. These areas include picking food for distribution to patient wards, preparation of patient salads, repacking of freshly made main courses and puddings and delivery of food to wards

The post holders will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene of all catering equipment and surrounding areas to ensure compliance is of the expected standards required of the department and must be literate and numerate.

There are 2 posts available - 1 x Permanent and 1 x 6 month Fixed Term / Secondment Post. Hours of work will be 37.5 per week (5 out of 7, Mon - Sun) on a rota basis working between 06h00 - 18h30

Main duties of the job

An opportunity to work in a large team of caterers across both City and QMC sites ensuring our food is packed, prepared and picked, ready for delivery to wards. You will need to be physically fit and able to spend long periods of time on your feet. You will be required to process information in a limited time period to ensure the correct quantities of meals are picked and distributed on time to our patients. Previous experience of working in a catering/patient focused environment is desirable though full training will be given.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide food production support to the catering team in the production of all foods.

Prepare and produce salads to the required standard and specification.

Deliver foods to wards and departments as required.

Seal and label food containers ready for cooking, chilling or blast freezing.

Portion foods into the appropriate cooking vessels ready for cooking, chilling or blast freezing.

Load meal trolleys with foods in readiness for each meal service.

Receive and unload meal trolleys, and store in designated loading bays.

Stock rotate foods in line with Food Safety Standards.

Support the stores team in receiving, storing and dispatch of foods.

To undertake all light and deep cleaning duties that may be required to ensure the smooth running of this busy catering operation.

To operate within the procedures designed to maintain a safe system of work and food hygiene.

Answering the telephone in a courteous and helpful manner.

Disposal of waste to designated collection areas.

To be economical in the use of all resources by careful housekeeping.

To work across both NUH sites in the Food Production areas (some may require more prominence than others)

To undertake any other duties delegated to them by a supervisor or manager that may be safely and reasonably be required to maintain a high level of service to the customer/patient.

General Duties

Undertake and complete HACCP food safety paperwork system.

Changing tasks as a result of changing priorities in workload.

Use of mechanical aids (e.g. sealing machine).

To lift, carry, and manoeuvre objects (on occasions heavy objects).

To assist with training for new starters.

Understanding and adhering to Trust Policies and procedures.

Undertake Mandatory Training to comply with all Trust policies, procedures and practices and to be up to date with any change
