The Quality Control Unit has dedicated purpose built quality control laboratories (Chemistry and Microbiology) and a team of 15-20 Quality Control and Quality Assurance staff and is looking to recruit a QC Technician with experience in microbiological testing.
We are looking for a enthusiastic, highly motivated and committed QC analyst with excellent communication skills to join us.
Main duties of the job
The role holder will carry out a number of analytical chemistry techniques in the testing of pharmaceutical samples and raw materials.
The technician will also assist in the routine calibration of laboratory equipment, maintenance of reagent and stock levels and on a regular basis be involved in supporting the work in the microbiology laboratory.

To carry out chemistry testing including HPLC assay and related substances, FTIR, particle counting, titrations, flame photometry, UV-Vis analysis, pH and wet chemistry techniques against written procedures or pharmacopoeial monographs.
To participate in the development and validation of chemical procedures and techniques and to write up reports as required.
To carry out stability studies on products
Carrying out booking-in of samples onto the laboratory LIMS system and spreadsheets
Assisting in the maintenance and update of written methods and worksheets for all procedures carried out in the laboratories.
Responsible for stocktaking and maintaining levels of reagents, glassware and bought in consumable supplies, in the laboratories
Supporting work in the Microbiology laboratory on a regular basis.

- Educated to a minimum of A Levels in Chemistry
Desirable
- A degree in Chemistry or subject with a significant chemistry content

- Good communication skills, able to liaise with the colleagues to arrange the day to day work requirements

- At least 1 years' experience in a range of wet chemistry and analytical chemistry techniques such as titrations, refractometry, dissolution testing and the use of analytical equipment for example HPLC, FTIR, UV-Vis.
Desirable
- Experience in HPLC method validation Experience of using LIMS systems to book in samples and enter results. Experience and understanding of health and safety within a chemistry laboratory, for example creating COSHH and risk assessments Experience of carrying out QC microbiological techniques for example testing of TVC, sterility, media fertility/growth promotion tests.

- Able to plan own workload to meet laboratory deadlines Demonstrate flexibility be able to alter workflow to meet changing Department and Pharmacy deadlines
